How We Started
The story of KANASI LIVING didn’t start in a boardroom or behind a desk; it began amidst the rhythmic clatter of looms in the historic town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh. At the time, there was no grand agenda or business plan. We were simply traveling for the pure joy of exploring the world with the people we love.
It was during these unhurried moments, watching artisans patiently weave centuries of tradition into every thread, and listening as they shared the animated stories of their families and their craft that we, women shaped by years of immersive travel across India and the globe, felt an undeniable connection to the handmade.
Formally established in April 2025 after months of intentional exploration, KANASI was born from a desire to transform this reverence for heritage into a tangible reality.
Our name carries this philosophy in its DNA: In Sanskrit, 'Kan' means an atom, the smallest and most essential unit of beauty and meaning. 'Asi' means “you are,” a reminder of presence and belonging. Together, KANASI serves as a reminder that true style should be deeply personal, and that beauty and meaning are often found within the smallest details.
Our journey of exploration continues, a promise to bring you contemporary expressions of handmade artistry.
We invite you to become a part of this mindful world we are building.

Who We Are
Travel was an integral part of growing up for both of us. Raised in armed forces families, we were introduced early to discipline, resilience, and a deep respect for people, place, and culture. Movement across regions was not merely geographical; it became an education in diversity, observation, and a quiet appreciation of the world’s many textures.
For one of us, this curiosity was further nurtured by a mother of remarkable creative instinct - fearless in voice, intuitive in style, and deeply attuned to beauty in everyday life. Journeys through remote corners of the country became lessons in local art and handcraft, often continuing at home through experiments in batik, tie-and-dye, and the simple joy of making by hand. Backed by unwavering support at home, she grew to trust instinct over expectation, allowing her choices to unfold on her own terms.
She would go on to build a company from the ground up, an experience that shaped both her appetite for risk and her refusal to remain still. Restless by nature, she is in constant motion, drawn to new ideas and open to opportunities that may not always appear linear or obvious to others. Over time, this instinct has evolved into a two-decade practice guided by curiosity and openness, traversing architecture, behavioural science, and technology.
KANASI is a return to what has always felt instinctive: working with the hand, material, and memory, while allowing it to take on new form. At its heart is an ongoing exploration of translating instinct and taste into considered pieces, where tradition and the contemporary meet and reshape each other.
For the other co-founder, creativity and conviction were nurtured at home with quiet grace. Her father, a man of understated artistry, stitched, sketched, and swam, teaching her that engaging with craft and movement in any form brings balance, pause, and perspective to life. Her mother, equally inspiring, was a teacher, historian, and musician. A sitar player in her youth, she became a guiding force, instilling the belief that wherever life plants you, one must grow with elegance and resourcefulness. From her, she learned that cultivating passions, investing in self-development, building meaningful connections, and fostering independence are essential values, principles that continue to shape her path.
For over two decades, these values carried her into boardrooms, where she rose to leadership, guided diverse teams, and helped shape the careers of others. Along the way, she discovered the importance of pausing, redefining goals and embracing passions beyond the corporate sphere.
KANASI is that pause, an ode to heritage, artistry, and the spirit of creation. For her, it marks a new chapter shaped by the desire to craft something deeply personal, drawing her closer to the worlds of art, movement, and learning.
At the intersection of our parallel journeys lies KANASI, rooted in travel, shaped by craft, and guided by intention. It is becoming a space where everything we have lived, learned, and deeply felt can come together. Into it, we pour our passion, our curiosity, and our enduring respect for creating objects and experiences that carry lasting meaning.
